Explore the island on foot!
The National Marine Park of Moheli offers endless opportunities to discover the treasures of biodiversity. A forest walk offers excellent birding opportunities. You are almost sure to see encounter drongo, the Comorian falcon, the Mohelian pigeon, the blue parrot, and the Maki and Livingstone bats. Or you may choose to take an easy stroll along the coast through the mangroves. With a bit of luck you will spot many sea birds, herons as well as sea crabs and dogfish.
For good hikers the hills of Moheli are even more inviting. Taking part in our new one day exploring trek from north coast to south you will be accompanied by our guides. This hike will take you along the winding paths passing by the little fields as they give way to the primary forest. Along the way you will see all the plants so typical for Moheli such as cinnamon, vanilla, pepper or pineapple. Did you know the clove grows on a tree? Will you find it? And if on the very top of the mountain you look very far across the sea that "little" hill sticking out of the sea will be nothing else but the Karthala volcano.
A relaxing village walk can be very rewarding. All along the streets you will be greeted by the friendly people of Nioumachoua and our guide will be there to give you an insight of what life is like in a Comorian village. And of course, do not forget to buy fresh vanilla beans to take them home with you.
